Question 1

What should you do if movers damage your belongings?

Accepted Answer

Photograph the damage as soon as you notice it, document what happened, and notify the moving company promptly. Keep your inventory, moving paperwork, photos, and receipts together because the claims process and available compensation depend on the protection option that applied to your move.

Question 2

Should you empty dresser drawers before movers arrive?

Accepted Answer

Heavy, fragile, valuable, or loose items should come out. Some movers allow lightweight clothing to remain in sturdy dressers, while others prefer completely empty drawers. Ask your moving company beforehand, especially for heavy furniture, stairs, long-distance moves, or delicate pieces.

Question 3

Can professional movers transport houseplants?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. Policies vary by mover, move distance, plant size, and destination regulations. Houseplants are sensitive to heat, cold, tipping, and limited airflow inside trucks, so confirm the mover’s policy before moving day and consider transporting valuable plants yourself.

Question 4

When should you transfer utilities to your new home?

Accepted Answer

Start contacting providers about one to two weeks before moving, once your move and responsibility dates are confirmed. Schedule electricity, gas, and water so service is available when you arrive, and arrange internet earlier if a technician appointment is required.

Question 5

Do you need to provide food or drinks for movers?

Accepted Answer

You are not required to feed your moving crew. Providing water is considerate, particularly in hot weather, and snacks or lunch can be appreciated during a long move. Some companies have their own policies, so ask beforehand if you plan to provide food.
